We're breaking down the top 10 Characters from The Walking Dead.
Character: Morgan Jones
Bio: Morgan was your average, everyday family man when the outbreak spread and took his wife Jenny. He created a bunker inside a home in King County, Georgia with his son Duane where by chance they rescued a lost Rick from certain death. Once they patched him up and sent him on his way, Morgan would lose his son Duane to the reanimation of his wife, forcing him into a state of shock and denial. From there, Morgan ventured the wilderness, meeting a talented, non-violent man named Eastman who taught him the ways of the staff before he would get back on the road and eventually meet back up with Rick.
Why we love them: Morgan is like that childhood friend that you have not seen in a while, but when you do, it's like you never missed a beat. He still has that same calm, upbeat personality, but at the same point, you notice that he might not be all that stable upstairs. With Morgan, you can at least understand why, with all the loss he has faced recently in his life. That being said, he has some mad skills with a staff and is very entertaining to watch take down walkers and bad people alike.
Best Moment:
Character: Judith Grimes
Bio: Judith is the "daughter" of Rick Grimes/adopted daughter of Michonne. She was born into this post-apocalyptic world and knows nothing of the world before. During her birth, her brother had to save her life at the expense of the life of their mother. Through having some of the best role models for surviving a zombie apocalypse, she would grow up to be one of the baddest little girls around.
Why we love them: Judith is the daughter we all wish we had. She is smart, witty, and fearless. Out of all the members who are left in the group, she is probably one of the few we are least worried about when stuck in a tough situation. Sporting her father's hat and firearms and knowing how to wield her (adopted) mothers sword, she has many skills in combat as well as the knowledge to know when she is in over her head. Plus, she is given some of the best lines in the show.
Best Moment:
Character: Maggie Rhee
Bio: Maggie was your typical farmer's daughters when the apocalypse hit. Led by her father Hershel, they solidified their farm against the onslaught of walkers. When Rick and his crew met up with Maggie and her family, they convinced them to join the team and she began her growth as a major contributor and leader to the group. Maggie would eventually lose her whole family, marry Glenn, get pregnant, lose Glenn and then become a mother to her son Hershel Rhee. Oh, and rise to power as the leader of the Hilltop community.
Why we love them: Maggie is one to always follow her heart. She always does whatever she can for her family and whatever she thinks is right for the benefit of the group. Even though sometimes her heart thinks faster than her mind, you can always understand the reasoning behind every move she makes and love her for it.
Best Moment:
Character: Negan
Bio: Negan is not your typical "bad guy" but at the same rate, is not a good guy by any means. Through a mysterious back story, Negan founds the group "the saviors" and sets off on a path of dominating all the neighboring communities by offering them protection while taking their supplies as payment. Eventually, Negan's ego would get the best of him and he would lose everything he built and wind up in the pits of Alexandria.
Why we love them: There is something about Negan that you just have to love whether it's his charismatic personality or his exotic use of the English language. He knows how to draw you in and almost makes you believe what he is doing is actually a good thing and question whether or not Rick is the bad guy. On top of that, his relationship with Lucile is something to aspire towards and his pep talks are almost mottos to live your life by.
Character: Hershel Greene
Bio: Hershel was just another farmer in rural Georgia when the outbreak hit. He acted fast and used his knowledge and talents to fortify his home to protect his family. When Rick showed up after his son was shot, he put his other skills to use and saved his life. Hershel would go on to become the wise elder statesman of the group, trusted by Rick when he needed to bounce ideas off of someone. He was also the doctor of the group who time and time again saved many lives. Eventually, Hershel's good nature and wisdom could not save him and he was taken out in front of the whole group at the prison.
Why we love them: Hershel become like a dad to all of us. You can trust him to always have the answers you need and be the rock whenever we start to waver. He never seems to crumble and is always strong no matter how great the loss he faces. His good nature and kind heart is something we can all look up to and something we have all greatly missed since he was taken from us.
Best Moment:
Character: Carol Peletier
Bio: Carol began her story as a very quiet, domesticated wife and mother tormented by her alcoholic and abusive husband. The coming of the apocalypse set her free from these demons at the cost of losing her children. During the early stages of grieving the loss of her daughter she befriended Daryl who taught her how to be strong and defend herself. Through this friendship, Carol would learn to take nobody's shit and become one of the top walker killers in the group.
Why we love them: Carol starts off as weak as a mouse who is abused, beaten down, and walked all over by the ones who are supposed to love her. She faces great loss and is able to use that to gain great strength and knowledge and become a major asset to the team. She has reached a point in her growth where she now has no fear and is willing to face any threat facing her or the ones she loves.
Best Moment:
Character: Glenn Rhee
Bio: Glenn was an average young pizza delivery guy in Atlanta when the dead started to rise. When this happened, he started to use skill set and quickness to get in and out of the city for supplies. By chance, he would find a trapped Rick in the city and use his quick wits to rescue him. These skills would come in handy time and time again for the group when they needed to get in and out of places quickly and unseen. Glenn would later meet Maggie, as mentioned earlier, and they would fall in love and get married. When the group first runs into Negan and his crew, Glenn ended up falling victim to Lucile.
Why we love them: If you could take your childhood dog and turn them into a person, that would be Glenn. He is loyal to a fault and will always do whatever you ask of him no matter the danger to his own life. He has a big heart and a fun, peppy personality that brings you joy whenever he is on the screen. Just like dogs however, Glenn's life was shorter than we hoped and all we have left are the memories.
Best Moment:
Character: Michonne
Bio: Michonne is a very skilled swordsman who knows how to separate a walker's head from its body with ease, but this was not always the case. When the outbreak first happened, Michonne lost her toddler and boyfriend, which drove her to solitude where she would train in sword combat. This is also when she came up with the strategy of using walkers as body guards by eliminating their arms and teeth so they could not attack her. She would later meet up with Rick and his group and become very close with him, eventually taking on the role of mother for his daughter, Judith, and having a son, RJ, with him. When Rick disappears, Michonne takes up the mantle as leader of Alexandria.
Why we love them: What is cooler than a zombie-killer with a sword? A badass, short-tempered, strong-willed woman wielding that sword.
Character: Rick Grimes
Bio: Rick Grimes is our main protagonist for most of the early years of the show. We got to know him when he was a cop and witnessed him get shot while on the job. He ended up in a mini coma at the hospital where he slept through the start of the outbreak. When he woke up in his room, everyone was gone and he had to figure out what happened all on his own. From this point, Rick would rise to power, becoming the main leader of many groups along the east coast while facing many villains including the walkers, the Governor and Negan. During his adventures, Rick has lost many people close to him including his best friend and partner, his wife, and his son, Carl.
Why we love them: Rick Grimes was, is, and forever will be our leader. He has led us into the pits of hell and back out again. His strategies are sometimes questionable, but in the end he always sees our group through. He had a dream of recreating civilization, and through that dream and vision, the communities live on.
Best Moment:
Character: Daryl Dixon
Bio: Daryl grew up with his brother, Merle, in an abusive home where his alcoholic father beat both of them. This created a strong bond between the brothers and toughened them up for the world after the outbreak. He and his brother joined the group that Rick would eventually lead, but Merle was not always a team player, so Daryl had to be the buffer and keep everybody calm. After Merle was lost on the roof of a building in Atlanta, Daryl turned his focus to helping Carol find her missing daughter, which ended up creating an everlasting bond between the two. Throughout their trials and tribulations, Daryl earned the trust of Rick and became one of his most trusted friends. Daryl is always loyal and you can always count on him to save the day with his trusted crossbow.
Why we love them: Let's just get it out of the way and start off by saying "oh my god just look at him, he is so HOTTT". Now that that is out of the way lets talk about Daryl the person. The man is loyal, the man is tough, the man has mid skills with a cross bow and he is just tougher than nails. Daryl was built for this world. He has the brains to survive in the wilderness, the skills to use every resource around him and the wit to know who he can trust and who he can not. He is the complete package of not just somebody that is easy on the eyes or somebody that just emits bad assness but also somebody that is genuinely a good person and a great roll model for all of us. If the zombies ever come knocking on my door I can only hope to be half the person Daryl is.
